Issue: How should the Graphical User Interface (GUI) screens appear to the user?

Discussion: I want the screens to be made up of three panels.  A top panel which displays the Season name and the League name.  A panel on the right side will display a vertical line of buttons, with each one a possible option.  These buttons will be items like Next, Previous, Delete, New, Save, Select, etc.  A panel to the left of the button panel, and below the title panel, will be where the characteristics for the object are displayed, possibly for editing.

The main screen will be slightly different because it only needs a top, or title panel, and below it a group of images representing the options.  The images will be buttons which lead to one of the object screen mentioned above.  The options will be displayed as not enabled, that is not selectable, until that option is available for selecting.  The option is available when the appropriate data has been loaded into the program.  If a Season or League has not yet been selected, then “No Season” or “No League” will appear in the title panel.

Conclusion: Here is what I envision the main menu to look like:
